AF would make a pretty ultimate graphic adventure without having to change very much about it at all; disorientation is practically a genre staple without being half so interesting most of the time. GET ON IT, CAIRNS.
The (gimick?narrative device?) where Charlie can read the narration is really interesting. It makes the diver feel distant from the events that are happening. Maybe it’s his defense mechanism or something??? Whatever, it’s a cool thing good job this comic rocks.
Hmm. The only really consistent connection I’ve seen between the aspects and their associated signal flags are the colors. Sometimes they also match up with their name (Charlie, Hotel), but others don’t really seem to match up. The maritime meanings don’t seem to match up at all; there doesn’t seem to be anything about Hotel or Vague Memories that translates to having a pilot on board, and maybe there’s some way of tying them together but the other meanings don’t seem to match up that much with their aspects either. Then again, maybe November turns out to be the anti-Charlie, heh.
One thing that I have noticed is that of the five we’ve positively identified so far, they’re all in the first half of the alphabet. Based on the bird’s coloring, and assuming that it’s also an aspect, there are three likely candidates for which one it is, and they’re all in the first half of the alphabet as well. Makes me wonder a) if that’s intentional, and b) what spurred the decision to assign any particular aspect to a particular letter, beyond aesthetics and the obvious name-matches like Charlie and Hotel.
I was also going to point out that they’re all consonants, but given that there’s only five vowels that seems much more like just a coincidence, heh.
So I ran some numbers. Even counting Y as a vowel, the odds of the first six aspects chosen at random being consonants is 20%. 35% if you throw out the thematically named Hotel and Charlie. Odds on the first six (or four) being in the first half of the alphabet at random though is only 1.5% (or 6%). But then, it could just be they were selected to be in a quasi-alphabetical order based on appearance, so naturally ones like Bravo and Charlie show up first while we may not be seeing Yankee until near the end. *tries not to double-post too much in the future, heh*
Why can’t I trust Charlie? The guy’s too… confident. I guess it’d be pretty lame if he threw up his hands and wailed on the ground in front of Diver. Then Bravo would probably fall to the ground and turn to dust, and then the story’s over. SO I guess Diver and I have to follow Charlie’s foolishly cocksure abs into probable danger.
I hope “Whiskey” turns out to be another “person”!
you need to watch joss wheedon’s “doll house”. You all do
This entire comic reminds me of a point and click/escape the room type of game. finding objects and trying to figure out how to use them properly.
It’s very exciting :D
That would be a blast. Probably confusing and frustrating, but a blast nonetheless.

I’m really dense, I think; I never equated the fact that Charlie’s fairly small, physically, with what he represents until now.
People don’t think I’m being serious when I say his crazy abs are thematic.
(How can someone not be serious about the thematic appropriateness of ridiculous abs?)
Also;
his jacket is made entirely out of abs.

I have a theory- the bird is “Kilo: wish to communicate”

(Feel free to double post!)
Just caught on everything to this page. The atmosphere is great and the concept is really intriguing. I’m excited to see where this is headed!
The flags are starting to make sense… that is, the way madness makes sense to the insane.
I like how the diver just looks apprehensive in this. Also, don’t Charlie’s abs ever get cold?
I just tought about the palette shifting of charlie…
those panels expecially makes me read him like Echo.
However awesome choices as ever plus wonderful colors’ composition.

who doesn’t want to follow charlie’s abs everywhere though?
